Permissions explained

Why each permission is requested and why Administrator is not.

2 min read

Discobi asks for a minimal set of permissions and explains each one. Nothing is requested "just in case".

Why not Administrator

Administrator bypasses every channel permission. If a bot with Administrator were misconfigured or compromised, it could change anything in your server. We ask only for what features need, so a mistake has a small blast radius.

What we ask for

PermissionUsed for

Read Message HistoryEditing panels and moderating recent messages
Add Reactions, Use External EmojisStarboard, polls, autoreact and server emoji

Manage ServerReading invites for invite tracking

Manage WebhooksClean log and welcome delivery

The invite page always shows the current list.

Role order matters

Fix a role that cannot be given

  1. Open Server Settings, then Roles.
  2. Drag the Discobi role higher than the target role.
  3. Try the action again.

Channel overrides

A channel can deny a permission even when the role has it. If the bot cannot post in a channel, open the channel's permission settings and allow View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links for the Discobi role.

Who can manage the bot

In the dashboard, only people with Manage Server or Administrator in your server, and only while the bot is present, can change settings. You can also assign moderator and admin roles in the server settings for in-Discord commands.
